Barrett Street
A new vibrant mixed-use precinct sits at the threshold of two distinct conditions: The Moonee Ponds Creek corridor and the Industrial character of Kensington’s warehouse district. Our precinct vision embraces the hi/stories of the site to shape an innovative and sustainable new place for living, recreation and working.
A series of interconnected places and destinations will evolve the site character and meaning through built form and public spaces.
We celebrate the overlaps between the natural, industrial and cultural heritage.
The existing blue-stone laneway network, coupled with planned upgrades to the creek corridor sets up a unique opportunity to celebrate connections between these conditions and improve visual and physical access to the water - Once a significant gathering place and source of food (including the Murnong Yam Daisy) for the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung. Re-establishing access to water plays a major role in the revitalization of the Moonee Ponds Creek.
An original Deco Nouveau warehouse structure has been retained and celebrated. The contemporary built form above responds to the hierarchy and modulation of the industrial heritage fabric.
The residential component is expressed as a series of vertical villages with subtle material and tonal transitions between each volume.
