Autumn Court
The design objective of this private residence was to provide a suitably different home to the existing, which provided the family a private retreat to meet their needs not only now, but also into their potential retirement.
The clients were adamant that they didn’t want any grey in their home, their desire for a warm feel was a big influence in the final material selection. The ground floor and half basement are sunk into the ground and wrapped in brick, where an equal mixture of two colours has been adopted to achieve the earthy shades of mahogany, moss and wine.
The trapezoid shaped block combined with the client’s desire for privacy which required for us to look closely at light attenuation, resulted in the insular courtyard house design. C-shaped around the central courtyard, the design emphasises these internal views and privacy. The house effectively turning its back on its neighbours to form an insular home.
